letting the days go by

Figured it was time for an update. What-ho, some positive words for a change!

The adjustments to my medications seems to be improving things - I noticed it, but equally importantly so did my brother. I'm dealing with side-effects still, mostly grogginess, but they seem to be starting to diminish as I approach the two-week mark, so I have hope that eventually I'll go back to feeling more awake before the afternoons. I am enjoying the freedom to drink more coffee, for a little while.

Comcast came by and offered us a 'bundle' deal which has resulted in our getting more services for less money - for the next year, at least. Among the benefits are HBO, BBC America, and some of the other premium channels. One of the first things we did was start catching up on watching Game of Thrones. I... Well, I watched the first episode, and thought it pretty brilliantly done; though it has been a long long time since I read the book so I can't really speak to authenticity. But it got the feel right, to me, which is why I think I'm going to have to put off watching the rest of the series until I'm a little more stable. All I could think of the whole time was where the story is (most probably) going... winter is indeed coming. I love Martin's work but I'm struggling with depression enough right now to need to set some things aside. For a while at least. But I was impressed.

Also watched Salt (better than I expected but still just as happy to see on cable) and the latest Jessie Stone movie, Lost Innocents (enjoyed thoroughly).

The Rat City Roller Girls event the other weekend was really fun. I went for the street theater but was drawn in my the strategic/tactical aspect of the sport. It made me think about learning to roller-skate, when the last time I put wheels on my feet I broke my tailbone - so the derby was pretty powerfully enticing.

I'm reading The Dervish House because for once I'd already read three of the five Hugo-nominated novels when the list was announced. I have The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms on hold; I've already read Blackout/All Clear (liked), Cryoburn (liked), and Feed (really wanted to like but didn't). It's not like I'm going to Worldcon or even just voting or any of that; I just wanted to finish the list. Yes, I'm a bit strange that way.

Now I'm off to bed.
