I may have lost a 'u' there: font/fount is mentioned in the Eggcorn database. Which oddly enough, I was just browsing thru about five seconds before I noticed what I wrote. Heh.

I had this very same concern when I was trying to determine if I was a 'font of bad advise' or a 'fount of bad advise'. Anyway I'm don't think you should follow my suggestion on which is correct.

I figure they're both (water)sources, just one is a bit more active than the other, so the meaning is preserved. Unlike the eggcorn "for all intensive purposes" instead of "for all intents and purposes" - which one of the branch chiefs used to use, and I could never get the courage to bring it up.
