Yesterday evening there was some sort of "thing" happening around the corner from my house, in the alley off Trenton between 34th & 35th Ave SW. I was on my way to the library, and found myself suddenly confronted by three police cars, two battalion chief SUVs and strips of caution tape blocking off a square portion of the alley that was the width of the house-lot. On the other side of this cordon, down the alley, was a fire truck and crew. No one was suited up in anything particular, and nothing obvious was wrong, although there was a group of people standing on the sidewalk talking to an officer that I believe are the family that occupies the house fronting on 35th, whose portion of the alleyway was roped off. (I catch the bus at a stop directly in front of this house, so I've observed the family and their cat on various occasions.)
On the way back from the library, another three police cars had accumulated, and there was an all-black version of the battalion-chief SUVs pulled up athwart the alley opening. Still not much in the way of observable trouble, although several of the officers were at their cars going though papers or something. A helicopter from Northwest Cable News was hovering overhead by this time as well.
However, I couldn't find any mention of the incident on the 911 dispatch page, nor was it revealed on any of the news websites I checked. Google brought me dozens of reports of the day prior, when police were apparently chasing a bank robber around West Seattle for a fair chunk of the day, but nothing current to yesterday afternoon.
Bomb threat? Hazmat issue? Like I said, no suits and no urgency to the situation, which seems to belie either of those situations. Strange.
