07:55 am I've been fiddling around with Google Reader some, in large part because I hate the way LJ handles most outside RSS feeds. I'm pretty happy with it, so far.
It's tempting to try and set it up to read my LJ friends page as well, although I'm not sure how much work that would be. I much prefer the way Reader handles high traffic volumes; I really like having the count tree (I doubt that is the proper term) over on the left for navigation.
RSS feeds and so forth are something I don't understand as well as I would like. Some part of me regards "things that move" on the internet as a suspicious class - this includes streaming media, animated .gifs, and more video content than makes any sort of conscious sense. I think it is the same part of me that gets nostalgic for the pre-graphic, pre-www internet, command-line days.
It's a small part. I'll not be giving up my graphical interface any time soon.

I was just thinking about how I miss typing PINE and seeing all of my email about .3 seconds after I logged in to my account, instead of waiting for stupid graphics to load just so I can log in to my email account, and then being faced with more graphics with headlines I don't care about loading before I can click MAIL and finally just see a list of my emails - still surrounded by silly ass graphical newscrap!
Whoa. There's a nerve there, I see. Ah well. I'll be taking a train trip tomorrow, so at least I'll get my old school transportation vibe filled. Though they'll be showing a movie, I'm sure. |
