astroturf: a fake grass-roots movement

In other words, astroturf is when an entity appears to be a local citizen-initiated effort but really has corporate sponsorship and is working to establish corporate goals.

Disinformation and propaganda, but what I love is the exact parallel in the terms 'grassroots' and 'astroturf'.
