|07:06 am - daze of holly|
Our floor had a potluck yesterday to celebrate the holidays. I took cookies - gingerbread men and chocolate mint cookies with loopy icing that I thought looked like tree ornaments. I did not make them myself, in spite of the concerted campaign by one of my coworkers to convince people I did. They went over quite well, anyway.
It was pretty low key, but part of that was a complete lack of that weird undercurrent of people watching who other people are talking to, trying to politick or sort through the tag ends of rumors for grains of truth. You know, where everyone stands around in a nervous circle, eyeing each other and trying to make small talk and eavesdrop at the same time... People just sort of came and went, got food, wandered around and visited. It was a nice change.

Interesting. The last few years I was in the phone site potlucks were a race to get your food and shovel it down as fast as possible to be sure you weren't a minute late signing back onto the phone. No time to actually interact with my coworkers.
Up here most potlucks consist of me showing up without anything, then noticing I am the only one here and deciding to go out for lunch. :)
