11:26 am - Release: Chris 3.0
I just got a call from grouchychris and they are discharging him from the hospital today after all. (I spoke too soon - but you see, occasionally reverse psychology can work on the universe.)

The trick is going to be getting him home - he's not allowed to drive himself (rightly so). Also, someone who can drive a manual transmission will be needed to drive his car home. I gave him cjo as a possible for transporting his person, and he's probably calling her as I type. I'm not certain of her schedule though, she may not be available. I left a message on amnotsurly's voice mail as well.

If it happens someone reading this would be available for transport or stick-shift driving...

I was just talking to Chris on the phone when his sister arrived at his hospital room. Sounds like they're discharging him even now.

He sounds awfully perky for somebody on Percoset. It always surprises me how differently people react to opiates. One little Vicodin and I'm thinking, "Maybe I still hurt, but I don't care, because I am a goddess. Ooh, Pokemon's on. I love Pokemon. I love my friends, too. Love love love love..."

"Percocet", even. See, the stuff is so powerful that it destroys my power to spell, even at this remove.

It was nice to hear him in good grousing form. His lunch had just arrived: fish, coffee, pudding. Fish -- he's a vegetarian. Coffee -- he loathes the stuff. Pudding -- is it low-fat? And then there was a little bit of rice and vegetable matter; I guess that's his lunch.

Oh good. Yeah, he was telling me the hydrocodone he had for the last round of dentistry didn't do a damn thing for him. I'm actually quite glad to hear the Percoset works. Just as long as it doesn't make him so perky he overdoes it...

Was his sister driving him home?

I believe that was the plan. I didn't ask about his car, though.

I think he'll be sensible. One of the things we talked about yesterday was the importance of Not Being Dumb. He said something to me about a year and a half ago that made a big impression on me; now I've resolved to Not Be Dumb. Sounds like he made that resolution himself, consciously or otherwise, a long time ago.

I am pleased to hear it - not because I think he'd deliberately do something Dumb as much as thinking that he hasn't spent a lot of time being sick, and not being used it. But if he's thinking about it, that's good.

I stopped at my house to get some lunch and drop off my computer (and to give him time to get home), then I plan to go over and play fetch-and-carry minion.

Heh. Well, I've spent a lot of time being sick, and I'm still Dumb on a distressingly regular basis. I think the Dumb may be born, not made.
