Oddly enough I don't find the idea as worrisome as I do some of the genetically altered foodstuffs research. That probably has more to do with a lack of understanding of the roles insects play in ecology than an implicit faith in the relative simplicity of insect genomes making them easier to tinker with in safety.
It also has to do with thinking the herbicide Round-Up is pretty nasty stuff, and not wanting to eat anything that can bathe in it unscathed.
