. . .

Part of why I find weather so fascinating.is illustrated by this morning. I woke up around 3:30 a.m. and looked out the window - everything was bare. I noodled around on the computer for about an hour, then felt sleepy enough to go back to bed. Looking out the window before retiring, pretty certain that the promised post-midnight snow had stood me up again, I discovered no! there was at least an inch, maybe two of snow on the ground. Just like that, essentially, to my point of view. It changes so rapidly.

The other thing I like is I find it a welcome antidote to much of modern society's hubris. We do a fairly good job of controlling our local environment; it's easy to forget that on a larger scale we can only mostly predict what is going to happen, let alone try to control it.
