parts is parts

I saw a preview for the remake of Freaky Friday, and am struck by how that's a story you couldn't tell in a culture that didn't accept/embrace the idea of Cartesian dualism. If the mind and the body are a seamless whole, what swaps? Or maybe I'm wrong, and it would be as though you woke up some morning with your mother's feet, say.

I wonder if the 'interchangeable organs' idea behind transplants or artificial body parts arose pre- or post-industrial revolution...
