(no subject)

Coffee roasting experiment #2 didn't even get fully into first pop before the smoke alarm went off. I hate having wasted a load, even if it was just the decaf. I guess the next step is to examine the smoke detector to see if it is easily disabled/re-enabled. Alternately I'd have to change venue, as I lack porch/balcony space. Another reason to move in April.

Speaking of which, I'm on the look-out for art studio/living space, as that is the type of place I wish to move into. It has to be somewhere I could set up a forge/kiln, allow cats, and be on the bus lines - most other requirements are negotiable. I know the sort of space I'm looking for exists... it's just a matter of finding it. With luck, between now and April something will turn up - I'd deeply appreciate any leads sent my way.

I tried to post this yesterday afternoon, but my connection was having some kind of seizure, so here it is now.

suction cups in the sky

I have to confess I like the new Central Library much better in 'person' than I did from the drawings/plans. I walk by the site on my way to work, and it's grown on me. It will never be a favorite building of mine, I don't think, as it is in an architectural style I don't really care for, but I don't loathe the sight of it as I was afraid I was going to.

This morning I got to watch them use a set of giant suction cups attached to a crane to carry one of the glass panes from the truck bed up to where the workers were installing it. I saw them dangling empty at first, and my first thought was "eh?" Pretty cool...

my cat and I, too alike

[File under: I'm doing it because I want to, not because you told me to]

Xiombarg has had an arthritic hitch in her shoulder for a while now, so when my mom offered me a heating pad as part of her divestiture-of-stuff, I accepted it. It has a nice flannel cover, I figured the cat would take to it pretty rapidly.

So I brought it home and put it on the rug-covered box she hangs out on when I'm on the computer. She wasn't having any of it - wouldn't sit on it warm or cold. So I tried it under the rug, to see if she'd find the warmth plus familiar rug attractive. Nope.

So this afternoon I stuck it over on the bed - and here is the kicker - as though I were going to use it myself. Lo and behold, she's been curled up on it ever since.
