About four hours yesterday at work were claimed by conference call meetings. Same will probably go for today as well - I've one at 8 and one at 11, they usually take an hour and a half or so, depending on their size. They manage to be both useful and a huge waste of time. There seems to be a sizable group of people extant who can not assimilate information from written material - they have to have someone tell them about it, verbally, before they can parse it. I understand how this could be related to learning styles, to a degree, but it can be frustrating to log into a call simply to have the information already disseminated by email reiterated. There's just enough occasional additional explication to keep me tuning in rather than ignoring the calls completely, alas.
