orchids, passion, recursion

Ben and I saw Adaptation last night. Carol & Ulysses had recommended it, and truly I had been meaning to see it simply on the strength of Being John Malkovitch. Certainly none of the reviews managed to make it sound enticeing - but as Ulysses said, there is really no way to explain what it is about, other than to say it is good. Describing what happens doesn't work - the reviews did that, for example, to less than stellar effect. It's about recursion, and self-absorption, and not so much breaking the fourth wall as simply denying that it ever existed in the first place...

I do recommend it, and not merely because it mirrors painfully accurately some aspects of the flaming decent of my Nanowrimo novel in November.
