01:14 pm - more advertisment commentary
Whilst watching The Lost Room I spent most of my ad viewing time with the TV on mute. I hate commercials. But when I would dash off to use the restroom, I would leave the sound on so I could be certain to get back in time.

So I was treated to a singularly eerie advertising experience: a very very spare rendition of Tears For Fears "Mad World" over animated scenes of a soldier running through a burnt-out city, taking refuge in an abandoned building, and confronting a giant spider-monster-soldier that looms up out of the dark.

I'd seen the ad in silence a couple of times already, but the addition of the sound track made it absolutely arresting. It's for Gears of War, which since it is an Xbox game, that's about all I know.

I haven't seen the ad, but I bet I know that version of the song. If it's the one I'm thinking of, they used it on the Donnie Darko re-release soundtrack, too. I like it better than the original.

Yup, same one. Gary Jules is the artist's name; I don't know anything else about him.

Better than the original?

Blasphemy!

Although I do love the remake. I think, like many stripped-down acoustic versions, that it emphasizes the compositional strengths of the song.
